Engineering Department
Sr. Staff Engineer, Mechanical
JOB SUMMARY:
The selected candidate will be an individual lead contributor in a multi-disciplinary design team. Position will serve as technical expert for mechanical, opto-mechanical and thermal design, analysis and simulation. Develop innovative concepts/solutions for electro-mechanical systems. Will develop suppliers and drive project development from concept through pilot production phases. Should possess In-depth knowledge of sheet metal fabrication (aluminum and steel) for NEMA4X sealed electronic enclosures, including design and conduction cooling techniques.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for designing and engineering integrated electronic enclosures, cabinets and thermal systems.
- Establish and meet performance, cost and schedule goals while balancing various tasks at one time.
- Development of multiple solutions, perform cost/benefit analysis.
- Interface with Production in support of subcontracting the mechanical fabrication.
- Interface directly with customers and clients in design reviews and technical meetings
- Track project status (including budgets, development schedules, milestones, and action item lists) and report to management on a weekly and monthly basis
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Industrial design experience, including proficient use of 3-D CAD software (Solidworks)
- Direct experience with Agency Certifications for electronic products including: UL, FCC, C-TICK, CE, CSA. Emphasis on enclosures for embedded systems.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (CONTINUED):
- Training and practical experience with geometric tolerances, dimensions, surface finishes and material selection. Full understanding on how to operate programs based on ANSI standards.
- Training and experience with thermal design, including familiarity with cooling of high density electro-mechanical assemblies and printed circuit card assemblies using standard and innovative heat transfer techniques. Experience with heat pipes, TEC's a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of sheet metal fabrication (aluminum and steel) sealed electronic enclosures design and conduction cooling techniques.
- Thorough working knowledge of mechanical packaging and sheet metal enclosures with emphasis on NEMA 4X-6 enclosures.
- Project management/leadership skills with emphasis on supplier development, selection, management.
- Experience leading small teams through the development of projects from the design to pilot phases of production.
- Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of mechanical documentation, configuration management (CM), and maintenance process management.
CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 8 years full life cycle design experience with mechanical systems.
